SIKKIM PERMITS & ACCESS

Plan the permission. Then the journey.

Practical questions to ask before confirming a restricted-area taxi excursion.

A cab booking is not an entry permit.

Some Sikkim excursions need separate permissions. The official Sikkim Tourism protected-area guidance distinguishes destinations and traveller categories. Your eligibility and required documents should be checked by the operator for the exact route and travel date.

Tsomgo and Nathula are separate checks

Do not assume permission for Tsomgo Lake covers Nathula. Ask the team to identify the permitted stops and the approved vehicle in your itinerary. An excursion can change because of access restrictions even after you have planned other parts of the holiday.

North Sikkim and the Silk Route

Before paying for Lachung, Lachen or a Zuluk circuit, confirm current road access, the allowed route and overnight bases. Published package pages are ideas and budgets, not evidence that a road is open.

What to ask the travel team

  • Is this exact route currently available for my travel date and traveller category?
  • Which documents are required, and through what secure process should they be supplied?
  • What vehicle is authorised for each part of the itinerary?
  • Are permit and processing costs included in the written quote?
  • What alternative itinerary and refund/change terms apply if access is unavailable?

Do not enter identity document numbers or upload documents in the public quote form. First discuss the requirements with the team through the confirmed business contact.
