Protected areas: Tsomgo, Nathula, Zuluk and North Sikkim need a Protected Area Permit arranged a day in advance with photo ID and passport-size photos; vehicles for these legs are often locally registered SUVs under local rules. Weather: Nathula and Yumthang can close after snowfall; keep a buffer day.
